Mortal Engine – Chunky move

Today the Sydney Opera House is gearing up for the world premier of the latest Star Trek film. Just over a year ago it was a Chunky Move dance troupe performance. This is from a performance called Mortal Engine at the Sydney Opera House, Jan 2008. The group was recently in Melbourne performing and are now touring North America.

The short performance art piece by Chunky Move used movement and sound responsive laser projectors. The result was the human forms seen as outlines and grotesque shapes which constantly altered and changed into new forms. The use of light and shadow to create atmosphere from something as natural as the human body is something I will use when discussing the creation of book trailer videos with our students.
